Missing something... - The Matrix Reloaded Reviews

I've heard about a million people talk about how philosophically rich this movie is--in addition to its visuals--but frankly, the plot was confusing not because it's so "advanced", but because it's simply full of holes. As Ebert said, the Matrix started with a really cool concept, then shifted to simply presenting excuses for computer enhanced action sequences. This movie contains plenty of action, but the "powers" of Neo are as poorly defined as the nature of the Matrix itself. The idea presented in the first Matrix movie (remeniscent of Descartes) wasn't all that hard to grasp--a computer generated dream world, made to keep people in check. But "Reloaded" adds layer and twist after twist and layer until what's real and what isn't is so garbled even the writers don't seem to have an idea. Overall, it's worth seeing for the action and visual sequences alone, but definitely not as good as I was expecting.
