Trust me on this one... - The Matrix Reloaded Reviews

Matrix Reloaded must be one of the most mind engaging movies ever put on screen. No movie has ever been discussed with as much fanaticism and as many ideas as Reloaded. Yet, there are people out there who are bashing the movie. It is too long, over speechifyied, confusing, boring (I don't know where they came up with that one), pretentious, it has a bad story, too long action sequences, crappy special effects, ridiculous philosophising...I think you get the idea. Now, the movie is definitely not too long. It is long enough to expand on the story and introduce us to all the new characters properly. The "speechifying" (by Morpheus, namely) has its significance. His speech to Zion is obviously meant sa a rally to all its inhabitants, to get them informed and up and ready for the attack. I understand how some people might find this movie confusing. Even I didn't get what the architect said at the end until I saw it again and did some thinking about it. But, isn't the fact that the movie leaves you thinking about it and asking questions a good thing? Or would you rather just go on auto-pilot, disengage from the movie, and have IT answer all the questions for you? As for the story, some people said it wasn't as original as the first Matrix, this and that, blah blah... The fact remains that the original Matrix is one of the most original movies of all time. And plus, considering the nature of the story from the first one, how could anybody expect a sequel to THAT to be as original? We have already met all the main heroes-characters, we know their abilities, we know what the Matrix is, how it works (to some extent)... In my opinion, considering the above mentioned, the Wachowskis definitely came through with a story worthy of a Matrix sequel(s). About the special effects, well, there's always going to be people who just rather prefer the real thing to CGI, no matter how spectacular it looks. The CGI effects have once again raised the bar, just like with the 1st Matrix. New technology and software have been developed just for this movie, and it definitely payed off. Most of the time, it is virtually impossible to tell CGI from the real thing. Regarding the philosophy aspect of the movie - I really hate to sound cliched here, but if people didn't get it, it's not the movie's fault. Like I already said, the movie requires more than one viewing to be completely understood. Of course, there are people who got the philosophy of Reloaded after the first viewing and just simply didn't like it. Well, too bad, because you won't find another movie out there that handles the philosophical issues with much elegance and daring, straight-forward approach as the Matrix Reloaded. It really made me think, and I'm glad, considering all the mindless movies that come out these days, where you can just check your brain at the door, before you walk in the theater. In conclusion, Matrix Reloaded is a worthy sequel of one of the best action sci-fi movies put on screen, and can't wait for Revolutions to wrap it up.
